DEITIES
Part of the PIXelated group exhibition held at the People's Gallery, Historic Village, Tauranga. Lou tries his hand at Fantasy Art using Photoshop with XP Pen artist tablet/monitor. With his Deities series, he attempts to personify nature. It explores the effect of nature on man, and inversely, man’s effect on the environment. Historically, natural phenomena were considered sacred and divine.  Something to be revered or worshipped. Fast forward some thousands of years, and these divine beings have ceased to have influence on how we think and treat the world.
The Revered
Legends about mountains and ranges have always existed. Ancient civilisations worshipped these land formations as beings worthy of prayers and offerings. This Mountain sees a lone pilgrim enduring the storm to pay homage.
Anthropophobia
The tables have turned. The once revered gods and goddesses have fled. Some hide. The human, with his tools and inventions, has proven to be a powerful force. A force to be feared.
The Catch
Some deities couldn’t escape the ruthlessness. Even in the deepest regions of the world, this mighty being couldn’t hide. The creatures of the sea despaired as their mother is dragged and hoisted out of their reach to be displayed and paraded for sport.
Wrath
But to all imbalances and injustice, there is a breaking point. All things fight for survival. Even gods.
The Peculiar Sighting of Dodos over Jupiter
This is a retelling of the Dodos disappearance to serve as a humorous reminder of our shortcomings.
Images taken by the spacecraft Juno as it orbits over Jupiter captures flocks of dodos flying by the giant planet.
Dodos were flightless birds “discovered” by soldiers around the beginning of the 17th century. Hunted by humans and their animal companions, the last confirmed sighting of the dodo was in 1662.
Fearing for their lives, a handful of these “awkward” birds did the impossible — they pushed all boundaries and forced themselves to fly in order to flee. It has been 300 years since and their flight has taken them past Jupiter. And their journey has not yet seen its end. For they are still trying to outrun their hunters. They are not yet far enough from men.
